Lisa Matthews

Accessible design; neurodiverse designer and user

A Talk by Lisa Matthews (Senior Content Designer, Nexer Digital)

About this Talk

User Experience (UX) is the foundation of great digital design and development. And neurodiverse designers work in an interesting and challenging intersection between digital creation and usage. Neurodiverse (ND) designers are members of User Experience Design (UXD) teams that build digital things for other people. At the same time, some of us are also the confused, end-user who sometimes has no idea how to access a digital ecosystem, let alone be empowered by it once we gain access. UXD isn’t just for design teams, and during the talk Lisa will share some examples of good and not-so-good UX design to illustrate why accessibility is so important. The talk will site Lisa’s ND experiences as a digital designer and user in the wider Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) context, and we will look at how neurodiversity is only one part of the accessibility (aka "A11y") profession and practice. Wherever you work in the digital sector, and regardless of your job title, leading in digital design and development means leading in A11y.
