Driving forward modern digital government - are the stars finally aligning?

A Talk by Dave Mann and Richard Pope

About this Talk

Modern digital government - a phrase we’ve heard many times before. While there’s undoubtedly been progress, that’s rolled back in recent years and we’re still some way from a government that’s genuinely harnessing the potential of digital to transform our public services.

The Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) - now a single, strengthened digital centre for government - is being asked to “drive forward the digital changes needed to overhaul the British public’s experience of interacting with government”. So far, we’ve heard about creating services that are “personalised, convenient, and timesaving”. What does that really mean in practice? How do we get it right this time?

In this Digital Leaders’ session, our CEO Dave Mann will be joined by Richard Pope to discuss how we should build our future public services. And what DSIT can learn from the institutional memory in and around government that knows what works and what doesn’t.

Richard is author of the newly published book Platformland, being talked about by many experts as the blueprint for the next generation of public services. Like Dave, he was part of the founding team at the UK Government Digital Service.
