Digital transformation in the Built Environment
A Talk by Gokcen Yilmaz (Assistant Prof in Design and Innovation, University of Exeter)
About this Talk
This talk will focus on how digital technologies are transforming industries like construction, manufacturing, and agriculture. As part of DIGITLab, funded by EPSRC, my work focuses on applying these technologies to enhance sustainability, traceability, and decision-making processes.
Collaborating with key partners, we co-created a self-assessment tool to help organisations evaluate and improve their digital capabilities. This tool helps companies develop tailored roadmaps to adopt digital technologies and optimise their operations. We also developed a testbed for digital product passports, which store key data such as product lifespan, carbon footprint, and specifications, enabling better decision-making and sustainability. Digital transformation is key to improving productivity and driving economic growth. Our tools help organisations identify areas for digital improvement, reduce waste, and promote resource reuse, helping them achieve sustainability goals and stay competitive in a fast-changing digital world.
