About this Session

Mobile UK as the voice of the UK’s mobile industry, will host an online webinar style panel discussion event which will include a talk from Director of Policy and Communications for Mobile UK, Gareth Elliott. This event will coincide with the launch of a new report from Mobile UK into digital inclusion.

The session will cover key topics relating to digital inclusion and the role that mobile connectivity plays. Gareth will outline the Digital Champions campaign which is calling on the government to fund Digital Champion roles in every local authority.

He will offer information on why digital transformation must not mean digital exclusion. Discussion will centre around why inclusion strategies should include robust mobile connectivity actions to ensure infrastructure and investment meets the needs of communities and business so they have future capacity and capability.

Reasons why people are digitally excluded and why certain sections of society are more vulnerable will be covered.

Gareth will be joined by Good Things Foundation Advocacy Manager, Hannah Whelan, and Greater Manchester Combined Authority Digital Innovation and Partnerships Lead, Beena Puri. The panel will discuss their respective work supporting digital inclusion, how the industry is collaborating to mitigate digital exclusion, and what further solutions are required from Government.
