Mark Thompson is Professor of Digital Economy at INDEX (Initiative for the Digital Economy at Exeter) within University of Exeter Business School.
He is also Strategy Director at London-based public sector digital specialist Methods, as well as Methods Analytics, and Core Azure. Mark has served as Senior Technology Policy Advisor to the Shadow Chancellor (2010-2012); IT Futures Advisor, Cabinet Office (2012-2012); Digital Advisory Panel, National Audit Office (2014-16); Advisory Panel, Digital Leaders (2015-current); Digital and Data Advisory Committee, Cabinet Office (2015-17); Senior Digital Advisor, Scottish Government (2016-current) and Board Member, TechUK (2018-current).
He has made various ad-hoc contributions to Treasury/Cabinet Office on digital/technology, including (recently) strategic direction of NHSX and Police ICT Company. Mark is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. His work has been published in a range of journals including Organization Science, Journal of the Association of Information Systems, Academy of Management Review, Human Relations, and Information and Organization.
