About this speaker
Kate has two decades of experience in flood and environmental risk management focusing on product and service development. Kate began her career as a hydrologist and hydraulic modeller at an engineering consultancy before joining the Environment Agency, where she has worked for almost 20 years. She holds a PhD in flood modelling from the University of Bristol and a Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Leadership from Warwick Business School.
In her current role, Kate leads a team that provides flood forecasting, warning, and incident response services to the public, colleagues, and professional partners. Kate is passionate about finding innovative and agile solutions, with her team regularly collaborating with technology partners such as Microsoft, Google, and other government agencies to develop end-to-end services that put users first. Her leadership has been instrumental in England's response to the climate change emergency and flooding events in recent years.
She is a strong advocate for inclusivity, championing Faith and Belief in the Environment Agency and across wider government, is a member of the Board of Trustees for UK Scouting and is a Chartered Scientist, Chartered Environmentalist and a Fellow of CIWEM.
